Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)

Navigate the complexity of CSRD compliance with Quest. We help your business turn regulatory obligations into strategic opportunity from double materiality assessment to audit-ready disclosure.

The CSRD Framework

Compliance is coming. Is your organisation ready to report?
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is the EU’s landmark sustainability reporting legislation, requiring companies to disclose detailed information on their ESG impacts, risks, and opportunities.
Replacing the earlier NFRD, CSRD significantly expands both the scope of companies required to report and the depth of information they must disclose. Reporting is structured around the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), covering topics from climate and biodiversity to workers’ rights and business conduct. A phased rollout means different companies face different deadlines, but preparation needs to start now.
CSRD is designed to interoperate with other frameworks including TNFD, SBTN, and GRI, meaning a well-executed CSRD process can support alignment across your full sustainability reporting landscape.
At Quest, we help you move beyond compliance by transforming CSRD into a driver of genuine business value.

The CSRD Essentials

While CSRD is an EU directive, its reach extends beyond European borders. Non-EU companies with significant EU-based operations or revenues will also fall under its scope. Reporting obligations are being phased in, with large companies first, followed by smaller firms, but regardless of where you are in that timeline, early preparation is the smartest investment you can make.

The Double Materiality Assessment

At the core of CSRD lies the double materiality assessment, a structured process that looks at sustainability from two directions. Your double materiality assessment determines which of these standards apply to your business and at what level of detail.

  • Impact materiality: How does your business impact people and the environment, both positively and negatively, across your value chain?
  • Financial materiality: How do sustainability issues create risks and opportunities that affect your business’s financial performance and long-term viability?

Together, these two lenses determine which ESRS topics are material for your company and therefore what you are required to disclose. Getting this assessment right is the foundation of a credible, proportionate CSRD response.

The ESRS Standards

  • Cross-cutting standards: General principles and strategy, governance, and materiality assessment applying across all disclosures.
  • Environment (ESRS E1–E5): Climate change, pollution, water and marine resources, biodiversity and ecosystems, and resource use and circular economy.
  • Social (ESRS S1–S4): Own workforce, workers in the value chain, affected communities, and consumers and end-users.
  • Governance (ESRS G1): Business conduct, anti-corruption, and responsible lobbying.

Our specialized CSRD alignment process

We don’t believe in box-ticking. Quest guides companies through every stage of CSRD preparation, combining regulatory expertise with strategic business insight.

  • Internal Buy-in and capacity building
We run tailored workshops and training sessions to build awareness, genuine commitment, and understanding of CSRD across your organisation from the boardroom to operational teams.

  • Gap analysis and scoping
We assess your current reporting maturity against CSRD requirements, identify gaps, and build a clear roadmap for compliance. This includes confirming your reporting timeline and understanding which ESRS standards are in scope.

  • Double materiality assessment
We facilitate a rigorous double materiality assessment, engaging key internal and external stakeholders, mapping impacts, risks, and opportunities across your value chain.

  • Data governance
We help you identify the right data points, build internal data collection processes, and establish the governance structures needed to sustain reporting year on year.

Why Quest for CSRD?

CSRD demands a rare combination of regulatory expertise, sustainability knowledge, and business strategy. We provide all three.

  • Regulatory authority: Our experts bring deep knowledge of CSRD and the ESRS standards, ensuring your disclosures are accurate, proportionate, and audit-ready.
  • Reporting synergy: We ensure your CSRD process supports your TNFD, SBTN, GRI, B Corp, and EcoVadis goals, creating a unified reporting ecosystem and avoiding duplication of effort.
  • Stakeholder engagement: We facilitate the double materiality process with your internal teams, value chain partners, and external stakeholders, building internal buy-in alongside regulatory compliance.
  • People first approach: We bring your teams along on the journey, building internal capability and cross-functional buy-in so that CSRD becomes embedded in how your organisation operates, not just a reporting exercise.
