Building a scalable digital ecosystem for B Lab Country Partners
The challenge

Fragmented branding and budgets

Impact Area: Public & Social

When an impact movement scales rapidly, digital infrastructure often struggles to keep up. B Lab’s European network was experiencing a classic case of digital fragmentation:

  • Brand inconsistency: CPs were operating individually, building standalone websites on varying tech stacks. A visitor in Germany experienced a completely different brand world than one in Italy, diluting the global authority of the B Corp identity.
  • Budget disparities: Larger regional teams could afford custom web builds, while smaller Country Partners were left with outdated sites or no web presence at all, creating a barrier to local community growth.
  • Redundant spending: Money was spent answering the exact same web development questions repeatedly in silos.
About B Lab Europe

1 template, 4 Country Partners

B Lab is a non-profit transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. It’s mostly know for being the creator of the renowned B Corp label and has many regional offices across the globe. We’ve been working with B Lab Europe since 2021. It’s thanks to our work for the European Chapter that we started noticing inconsistencies on a European Country Partner Level. Since then we’re also working for B Lab Benelux, Nordics, Italy and Germany.

Our approach

Creating brand consistency and budget efficiency

  • Content strategy: Mapping what's in common and what's not

We facilitated a number of workshops to align B Lab Europe and the Country Partners on content: who’s responsible to communicate on what exactly? Where should CP websites make a real difference compared to the already available European website? What content will the websites have in common and what should be different per country? And how do we make sure everything stays aligned, while there’s big differences in the capacity of CPs to manage websites like this?

  • Information architecture and wireframes

Based on these workshops we co-created a solid information architecture for the custom WordPress template to be built. The IA made sure to include all aspects we agreed on during the content workshops, but also left room for the CPs to make the structure their own, without creating brand or experience inconsistencies.

  • UI design system

We created a strong design system, building on B Lab Europe’s brand identity and website, but giving each Country Partner their own specific identity. When you visit all 4 websites, you’ll notice that each CP has their own color combinations, while the user experience is consistent across all websites.

  • Development: A multi-tenant WordPress ecosystem

We built a multi-tenant WordPress ecosystem, which allows us to start from one brand consistent foundation to produce several European Country Partner websites at a fraction of the cost to build a full-blown professional website.

Our solution

A multi-tenant WordPress ecosystem

Instead of building isolated sites, Quest conducted a comprehensive audit across all European B Lab touchpoints. We identified a core truth: 80% of what a Country Partner needs digitally is identical. It’s the local context, community stories, and visual accents that differ.

We designed a unified, master WordPress template system optimized for security, performance, and localized storytelling:

  • Our “One-to-Many” master template: We built a modular WordPress foundation containing standardized content blocks, accessible navigation, streamlined B Corp directory integration, and ESG-conscious code.
  • A dynamic visual identity system: we assigned custom, accessible color pairings to each Country Partner within the master CSS structure. This guaranteed instant visual recognition for local chapters (e.g. Benelux, Germany, Italy, Nordics) while maintaining strict adherence to global brand guidelines

Ready to streamline your impact ecosystem?

Whether you are managing a global non-profit network or scaling a multi-brand sustainability initiative, your digital infrastructure should amplify your impact—not eat your budget.

The result

More professionalism for a lower overall budget

  • Dramatically lower costs: By eliminating the need for each CP to make a website themselves, we drastically lowered the costs for B Lab.
  • Democratic access for small CPs: Smaller chapters gained immediate access to enterprise-grade web design and security that would have otherwise been financially out of reach.
  • Bulletproof brand alignment: We unified the digital user experience for all those visitors searching for certified B Corps across Europe.
  • Zero-downtime maintenance: We’re still continuously monitoring all website to keep them safe, without requiring technical expertise from local B Lab staff.
